Summer is in full swing, which means a hot and humid New York City. The big question is where can you go to cool down if you aren’t lucky enough to find an apartment for rent in New York City that comes with pool access?

The city’s five boroughs boast more than 60 public swimming pools which open for the season on June 28. We’ve picked a few of our favorites, as well as a few hotel rooftop pools that offer day passes.

Brooklyn: McCarren Park Pool

Located in easy reach of apartments in Brooklyn’s northern areas, McCarren Park Pool is at the border of Greenpoint and Williamsburg. This urban oasis has a fantastic amount of poolside space, so you can comfortably lounge on a towel or a beach chair. When it comes to swimming, you can happily splash around in the Olympic-sized pool, which is open from 11 am to 7 pm daily, with a break for pool cleaning between 3 pm and 4 pm.

West Village: Tony Dapolito Recreation Center

If you live in a West Village apartment, the pool at the Tony Dapolito Recreation Center is one of the most convenient places to cool off on a hot summer’s day in New York City. While the pool isn’t as big as some of the city’s other public pools, it has lanes for laps and it’s one of the few pools that still has a diving board. The Keith Haring mural painted on the back wall adds an extra dimension to the experience for art lovers. The center is currently closed due to construction, so it may open later into the season than the city’s other pools.

Chelsea: the Beach at Dream Downtown

If your apartment for rent in NYC is near Chelsea, and you don’t mind spending to splash in a more exclusive setting, head to the Dream Downtown Hotel. Depending on the day, you can get a day pass for $80 to $150 and enjoy access to the Beach at Dream Downtown. The 5,000-square-foot rooftop event space has a glass-bottom pool, a deck, a sand beach, a full-service bar, many chaise lounges, and two private cabanas.

Roosevelt Island: Manhattan Park

Roosevelt Island’s Manhattan Park apartment complex offers daily, monthly, and seasonal passes to its rooftop pool. Couple and family memberships are also available. In addition to the pool, you’ll also find a sun deck with spectacular views, a swim club, and a park-style atmosphere. The space features a mural by a different artist each year.

Brooklyn: the William Vale

Williamsburg’s William Vale hotel offers day passes in different tiers, so if you’re in the mood for swimming in a more exclusive atmosphere, this is one to check out. The tiers range from $150 morning passes to $650 passes to a 6-person cabana. Your pass gives you access to the 60-foot Vale Pool, a reserved lounge chair, complimentary Wi-Fi access, and poolside food and drinks service.

With these and many other options, you never have to worry about sweltering summer days in Brooklyn.
