If you can’t find something fun to do in New York City in July, you’re not even trying! July is hands down the best month for exciting and fun events – from the spectacular Independence Day fireworks to the delicious offerings of summer Restaurant Week. Here’s a quick look at some of the fabulous things happening all over the city this month.
Free Hot Dogs
(Saturdays & Sundays through Aug 26) What’s better than art and free hot dogs? You can have both in Brooklyn Bridge Park, courtesy of artist Erwin Wurm. He’s parked his transformed, bright yellow Volkswagen bus on Pier 1 (Saturdays) and Pier 5 (Sundays) through the end of August and will be serving free hot dogs each day from noon until the dogs run out.
Pinknic
(June 30 – July 1) Rosé the day away on Governor’s Island at Pinknic. Wear your best pink and white outfit and enjoy a day of rosé wine, food from local chefs, live music, a pool full of mermaids and a fireworks finale. New York is beautiful, but it’s even more magical when you experience it through rose-colored glasses.
Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks
(July 4) Whether you watch it in person or on TV, there’s no denying that the Macy’s 4th of July fireworks are spectacular. The amazing show is launched from barges in the East River and will culminate in a soulful performance of Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America” by Kelly Clarkson. Check the website for official viewing sites.
Arab Street Festival
(July 7) This annual event is back and bigger than ever. The Arab-American North African Street Festival is a huge celebration that features delicious food and fun musical performances. The party takes place on Great Jones Street in NoHo.
Mostly Mozart Festival
(July 12 – Aug 12) Get your dose of culture this summer at Lincoln Center. They are hosting the Mostly Mozart Festival with a full schedule of dance, theater, and classical music performances. A sampling of these events includes the North American production premiere of The Creation, an immersive theatrical experience set to Haydn’s masterpiece, and the world premiere of In the Name of the Earth, a large-scale choral work by Pulitzer Prize winner John Luther Adams.
City of Water Day
(July 14) This free annual festival is a big celebration of New York Harbor and its waterways. City of Water Day takes place at Pier 17 in the Seaport District and features fun activities like the Cardboard Kayak Race, free boat tours, children’s activities sponsored by Disney and much more. This is the perfect event for the whole family to enjoy.
Bastille Day Festival
(July 15) Celebrate all things French at the FIAF Bastille Day Festival. It’s the largest public party in honor of France that takes place in New York, so you know it’s gonna be good. Eat your face off while you enjoy music and dance performances along 60th Street from 5th Avenue to Lexington.
NYC Restaurant Week
(July 23 – Aug 17) NYC Restaurant Week returns this summer, and it’s the perfect time to sample new places or enjoy your favorites. 2-course lunches will be featured for $26, while 3-course dinners will set you back $42. Check back to the website beginning on July 9 to see menus and book reservations.
Panorama Music Festival
(July 27 – 29) The Panorama Music Festival at Randall’s Island Park is one of the must-see music events of the summer. Rock out to three days of performances from artists including The Weeknd, Janet Jackson, and The Killers. Experience interactive art installations, dig into some tasty eats, and dance all day and night in an open-air club.
NYC Poetry Festival
(July 28 & 29) End the month with a big dose of artful words at the NYC Poetry Festival. Taking place on Governor’s Island, the festival not only presents award-winning artists but also offers the opportunity for poets and poetry lovers to appreciate the art form and mingle. Best of all, it’s free!
