Dream Up Festival

(Through Sept 16) If you love theater, poetry, dance, music and innovative performances, then you must check out the Dream Up Festival. Presented by Theater for the New City in the East Village, the festival features work from both American and international artists. Ticket prices for each production range from $12-$20.

Ultimate Freedom Concert

(Sept 2) “Come One, Come All, Come Naked” is the rallying cry for the Ultimate Freedom Concert. Ton Dou returns to Duffy Square in Times Square for an “au naturel” performance. Attendees with the proper UFC wristband will be authorized to bare it all. It’s definitely a unique experience.

New York Fashion Week

(Sept 6 – 14) If you like your performers and attendees clothed, then you’ll definitely prefer New York Fashion Week. This NYC staple features the world’s best models, designers, and photographers. Most events are invitation only, but you can check out one of the shows that are open to the public.

New York City Labor Day Parade

(Sept 8) Join the AFL-CIO in support of workers at the New York City Labor Day Parade. The parade begins at 44th Street and 5th Avenue and ends at 67th Street. This year’s Grand Marshal is Michael Mulgrew, the President of the United Federation of Teachers, AFT Local 2.

Octfest

(Sept 8 – 9) Do you like beer, music, and food? Stupid question, right? Head down to Governor’s Island for Octfest, a two-day celebration featuring 20 artists and more than 90 breweries. Your single-day ticket includes 45 ounces of beer samples, and more will be available for purchase.

Tribute in Light

(Sept 11) On the anniversary of 9/11, the Memorial Plaza will be open from 3pm to midnight for a viewing of Tribute in Light. Twin beams of light reach four miles into the sky to honor those who were killed and to celebrate the resilience of New York.

The Feast of San Gennaro

(Sept 14 – 24) 2018 marks the 91st year for the Feast of San Gennaro! It’s an 11-day party in Little Italy that celebrates the spirit and faith of early Italian immigrants. Enjoy colorful parades, religious processions, live music and of course, delicious eats.

Museum Day Live

(Sept 22) If there’s a museum you’ve been eager to see, but the price of admission is a little spendy for you, then make sure to check it out on Museum Day Live. There will be many museums in New York offering free admission, and this year’s theme is Women Making History. Check out the website to find NYC’s participating organizations.

RuPaul’s DragCon

(Sept 28 – 30) RuPaul’s DragCon is three jam-packed days of pop culture, art, and all things drag. See your favorite drag queens and stars, check out the interesting panels, and shop for art, fashion, wigs, and more. This yearly event happens at the Javits Center and is the best place to rub shoulders with your favorite queens.

New York Film Festival

(Sept 28 – Oct 14) Round out your fun-filled September by taking in some films at the New York Film Festival. The event kicks off with a screening of Yorgos Lanthimos’s The Favourite, starring Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone.
