Just because you can’t jet off to Cabo doesn’t mean you can’t have an excellent spring break. In fact, you may find you have a better time if you stay home. You can have the quintessential spring break experience, complete with drinking beer, dancing, and hitting the pool, all here in the city. Here are some of our favorite places to get your spring break on.

Surround yourself with flowers

To start things off, you need a little “spring” in your spring break. You can satisfy that need at a number of flower shows and events happening around the city. Head to the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx for the Orchid Show, happening from February 23 to April 28. This year’s show is a tribute to Singapore, and you will be mesmerized by the thousands of orchids on display. Don’t want to travel so far? Then hit up the Macy’s Flower Show between March 24 and April 7. They will be showcasing millions of flowers, plants, and trees from around the world. Finally, check out Sakura Matsuri at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden on April 27 and 28. This annual cherry blossom festival also celebrates Japanese culture.

Go on a Brooklyn beer blitz

Spring break and beer go together like peanut butter and jelly. But instead of sucking down cases of Coors Light, you can up your game with some of the world’s best craft brews. Head to Brooklyn for the best experience, and start at King County Brewers Collective. It was recently crowned the Best Brew of NYC in the 5 Borough Challenge. Then check out Other Half Brewing where they have a rotating tap list and packaged beer to go. Finally, stop in at Brooklyn Brewery for a tasting and a tour of their operation.

Hit the clubs

Spring break has to include at least one night of dancing, right? For an upscale and trendy night with some of the hottest DJs, get tickets to Marquee at 10th Avenue and 27th Street. In March you can catch acts such as Borgeous, Cash Cash, and Vicetone. If you want to live spring break days of yore, then head to The Pyramid Club in the East Village. They have an 80s Dance Party on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. For a truly VIP experience, go to Tao Downtown. Tucked within the restaurant is a secret nightclub that attracts celebrities and socialites.

Take a dip

Every spring break should include a little relaxing. If you want to take a swim, then the Manhattan Plaza Health Club can’t be beat. Their 75-foot pool and sundeck is nestled in the heart of midtown. For a more pampered experience, try Spa Castle. Here you can enjoy heated pools, waterfalls, hot tubs, saunas, and a wide array of spa treatments. For an old-world feel, head to Wall Street Bath & Spa. It offers a combination of modern facilities with the charm of a Russian bath house. Face it, you could probably use a good shvitz after all the partying you’ve done this week.
