It used to be that being a pet owner and living in the city got along about as well as cats and dogs. For many years, most buildings had strict anti-pet policies – or, if they did allow pets, they imposed serious weight restrictions, leaving the average Labrador owner out in the cold. However, we’re thrilled to say the tides have turned in recent years and many buildings have loosened their restrictions, becoming more and more pet friendly, with pet-related amenities like dog runs and pet spas coming standard in a number of luxury developments across the city.
While city living still might not mix too well with owning some of the largest breeds (who in NYC has got the space?), and exotic pets (read: the scaly kind) still may be a bit of a harder sell, you’re likely to have a much easier time these days finding a place to cohabitate with your adorable feline or canine. With PetSmart’s National Adoption Weekend having just passed on Saturday and Sunday, we’ve got pet adoptions on the brain. The city is chock full of animal rescues and shelters, including Bideawee, ASPCA Adoption Center and Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue, doing amazing work to protect and find homes for some of the most vulnerable among us. Because who can resist these faces?
So, with that in mind, here’s a refresher course on some of FiDi’s pet-friendliest buildings. You can check out the full list over at Streeteasy, but these are some of our faves.
Pet Amenities:
15 William* stands out as one of the pet friendliest buildings in the area, and also a pioneer for residential development in FiDi. This 47-story condominium in the heart of the Financial District features one-, two- and three-bedroom residences with high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and 30,000 square feet of amenities, including an outdoor dog park playfully landscaped to encourage quality time with your dog.
Cipriani Club Residences. This historic Beaux-Arts building built in 1842 offers more than just a great place to enjoy an incredible meal or attend a lavish party. The 106-unit residential portion of the building boasts homes ranging from studios to four-bedrooms, and included in its long list of white-glove amenities and services are dog-sitting and animal grooming services.
Pet Friendly:
40 Broad Street.* The 158-unit at 40 Broad Street is a sophisticated residential oasis right in the middle of the bustling Financial District. In addition to its luxuriously-appointed homes, the building offers residents exclusive membership to The Club, as well as access to more than 44,000 square feet in amenities.
50 West. Two words: Curved. Glass. Two more words: Those. Views. One of the most anticipated developments in the Financial District in recent memory, 50 West boasts one- to five-bedroom layouts and was the first in NYC to introduce custom, curved glass walls, creating stunning, uninterrupted views in every direction.
37 Wall Street.* Once the home of the Trust Company of America, the iconic 374-unit building at 37 Wall Street provides a unique landscape for modern, luxury living with apartments of various sizes ranging from spacious studios to elegant two-bedroom units.
75 Wall. Designed by the renowned Rockwell Group, 75 Wall Street comprises 346 luxury residences atop the Hyatt-managed Andaz Wall Street, providing access to the hotel’s full suite of services and amenities.
Renaissance at 100 John Street* helped to launch the new Financial District as we know and love it today, first opening its doors about 15 years ago. The building recently completed a large-scale renovation, now offering redesigned amenities including a sky deck, deluxe residents’ lounge with billiards table and wet bar, and on-site Crunch Fitness.
70 Pine Street. Another of FiDi’s most hotly-anticipated residential projects in recent memory, 70 Pine is an ambitious 644-unit, 66-story rental project boasting over-sized studio to three-bedroom apartments and 21,000 square feet of next-level amenities, including LA PALESTRA fitness and wellness center and a fully-equipped Crossfit training field.
95 Wall Street* is a 507-unit luxury rental building boasting premier amenities and services including a concierge, a valet, breathtaking views from the expansive rooftop lounge and outdoor terrace, and a well-appointed fitness center and outdoor basketball court.
