St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, which means you have all day and night to celebrate everything Irish. Lucky for you, you don’t have to go far to do it. In fact, there’s several places right here in the Financial District where you can indulge in traditional Irish food and drink until you’re seeing green. Here’s a rundown of some of our favorite local Irish spots.

The Dead Rabbit

If you’re going to go to an Irish pub on St. Patrick’s Day, why not make it the World’s Best Bar? The Dead Rabbit, located at 30 Water Street, has repeatedly earned that distinction and is a well-known local favorite. The atmospheric pub features an outstanding collection of Irish whiskeys as well as a menu full of Irish favorites like lamb stew, scotch eggs and shepherd’s pie. It doesn’t get more authentic than this.

Fraunces Tavern

If your tastes lean more towards Irish coffee, then you should definitely pop into Fraunces Tavern on St. Patrick’s Day. They serve up a delicious cup of Stumptown coffee that is mixed with your choice of Irish whiskey (the list of choices is extensive). Add a dash of sugar with heavy cream on the side and you’ll be in heaven. The tavern has been open since 1762, so while you’re there check out the museum. Exhibits include Confidential: The American Revolution’s Agents of Espionage, period re-creations of dining rooms, and a wonderful collection of artifacts from Colonial America.

Perhaps one of the Financial District’s most famous bars, Ulysses’ is more than just a great place for weekday happy hours. It is, after all, named after one of the most famous Irish novels ever written. In fact, if you want to nosh on one of the city’s best corned beef sandwiches on St. Patrick’s Day, this is the place to do it. Polish it off with their signature cocktail, The Dubliner, or warm up with a Hot Toddy made from Jameson Whiskey.

The Full Shilling

Belly up to an authentic Irish bar right in the heart of the Financial District. The 105-year-old bar at The Full Shilling was shipped directly from Belfast and drips with old-world charm. Dine on a great selection of Irish fare such as bangers and mash, Guinness and beef stew, or fish and chips, and wash it down with your choice of 17 draft beers.

The Dubliner

If you want to feel like you’ve just been transported to Ireland for an afternoon, head over to The Dubliner. Located on picturesque Stone Street, this Irish pub looks straight out of Dublin. They serve all your favorite Irish dishes like a traditional Irish breakfast, and Irish takes on classic cuisine, such as their Irish Style Rancheros.

If you’re looking for a friendly neighborhood atmosphere on St. Patrick’s Day, then check out O’Hara’s across the street from the 9/11 Memorial. The pub serves traditional Irish fare and slings drinks from one of two charming bars.
