A relative newcomer on the Manhattan residential real estate scene, the Financial District (FiDi) has quickly become one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in the city to live. The community combines rich history, a peaceful atmosphere, exceptional housing and an authentic New York vibe that can’t be found anywhere else on the island. Here’s why we think FiDi is so special, and why we know you’ll love it, too.

Luxurious and affordable housing options

As more and more people discover the benefits of living in FiDi, a greater number of apartments have become available to suit all needs. Whether you’re looking for an ultra-luxurious building with all the amenities, or a family-friendly apartment on a quiet street, you have a huge selection to choose from. You’ll find all price points here as well, from affordable studios in the $425,000 range to spacious, upscale apartments worth $30 million or more. And if you want a great rooftop view, this is the place to get it.

Quiet, residential living

There’s no better place in Manhattan to be right in the middle of it all, yet still have the peace and quiet of a smaller neighborhood. The atmosphere is down-to-earth, with an emphasis on beautiful and safe communal spaces. Residents of FiDi are invested in their neighborhood, and it shows in how they care for the community.

Tons of great bars and restaurants

Did you know the Financial District lays claim to the World’s Best Bar? The Dead Rabbit, at 30 Water Street, has repeatedly earned that distinction for its ambience and killer craft cocktails. In addition, enjoy the charm and conviviality of dining on Stone Street, especially during nice weather when the cobblestone street is packed with tables from the various bars and restaurants. Delmonico’s, the city’s oldest restaurant, is an NYC icon and can’t be beat for power lunches and special occasions.

Commuting is easy

Just because you don’t work in FiDi doesn’t mean you can’t live here. Commuting from the neighborhood couldn’t be easier, whether you’re going uptown, to the boroughs or even to New Jersey. No matter where you live, you’ll find a subway line within a few minutes walking distance, and the PATH train to New Jersey is easy to catch from the World Trade Center Transportation Hub.

Convenient shopping

Given FiDi’s ascension as an appealing place to live, it’s no surprise that there are many new businesses opening that cater to residents. 55 Fulton Market offers two floors of fresh organic produce, quality groceries, sushi, beer and wine, and much more at reasonable prices. Whole Foods has a market in nearby Tribeca, with another coming to Wall Street soon. And find all your daily necessities at Brookfield Place and Westfield World Trade Center.

Close to many top NYC attractions

Whether you want to play tourist for a day, or you have family and friends visiting and you want to show them the town, FiDi is packed with some New York’s most prominent attractions. At the top of the list is the National September 11 Memorial and Museum as well as the One World Observatory. The South Street Seaport is perfect for shopping, dining and people watching, and beautiful Governors Island is a short ferry ride away.

Great schools

FiDi is a great place for families, not just because of the parks, the quiet, and the safety, but also because of the schools. Stuyvesant High School, one of the city’s best, is located in the neighborhood. Another noteworthy school, Peck Slip School (P.S. 343) has found a home at the South Street Seaport, and touts itself as a place where teachers invest significant time in creating “safe, kind, and inclusive classrooms.” The neighborhood is located in New York City Geographic District #2, a strong-performing district known for offering excellent opportunities for students in all grade levels.

Perfect for pet lovers

With so many of the high-rise buildings in FiDi allowing pets, the neighborhood has become very accommodating to those special dogs in your life. Get your pooch pampered at Fetch Club, and pick up all the supplies you need at Petropolis (they even deliver!). Then take your best friend for a fun workout at the South Street Seaport Dog Park.

High concentration of public art

If you’re an art lover, then you will find many pieces of interest in FiDi. There are dozens of installations in the neighborhood, including several by famous artists such as Koon and Naguchi. The Alliance for Downtown New York has a great round up of what you’ll find here.
