Everyone has gone out to the American Museum of Natural History and the MoMa, but you haven’t seen anything yet until you check out these places.
They’re all quirky and off-beat, but some of them are just downright weird.
1. The Elevator Historical Society43-39 21st Street Suite 206, Long Island City, Queens
The strangest thing about this museum devoted to elevators is that you have to walk up a flight of stairs to get inside.
This museum is free, but sometimes requires appointments for visits.
2. Museum of Sex
233 5th Avenue, Flatiron, Manhattan
This is definitely not the place you want to bring the kids to, especially if you haven’t had “the talk” with them yet.
Make sure to stop at the OralFix Aphrodisiac Bar and Museum Gift Shop.
3. Madame Tussauds New York
234 West 42nd Street, Midtown West, Manhattan
Living in NYC means it’s very likely that you’ll spot a celebrity at some point or another.
Going to Madame Tussauds means you’ll see pretty much every A-list celeb… in wax sculpture-form, that is.

4. Ripley’s Believe It or Not!
234 West 42nd Street, Midtown West, Manhattan
Everyone knows what to expect when it comes to Ripley’s – to expect the unexpected at all times.
Situated next door to Madame Tussauds, this “odditorium” has more than 500 rare artifacts and bizarre exhibits.
5. Waterfront Barge Museum
290 Conover Street, Red Hook, Brooklyn
There are houses on the water and now there’s this museum on the water.
It’s open year-round for free tours about life at sea on Saturdays from 1pm – 5pm when the barge is docked.
6. Troll Museum
122-24 Orchard Street #19, Lower East Side, Manhattan
Remember those creepy Troll dolls that were really popular in the 60’s and 90’s?
Reverend Jen, a self-proclaimed elf, has hundreds of trolls on display in her Lower East Side apartment.
Admission is free. Suggested donation? $3000.
7. Museum of the American Gangster
80 St. Marks Place, East Village, Manhattan
This mob-themed museum is set up in a former speakeasy with relics dating back to the 1920’s prohibition era.
If you want to learn all about these infamous organized crimes, the museum is open every day from 1pm – 6 pm. Admission is cash-only.
8. The Museum of Mathematics
11 East 26th Street, Flatiron, Manhattan
We’re not at all implying that math is weird or strange, but this zany museum was able to make it seem like the coolest thing ever!
The “MoMath” has interactive exhibits that will spark interest in visitors of every age.
