1. New York by Gehry, 8 Spruce Street

Known as the tallest residential building in the Western Hemisphere, Frank Gehry designed the building with undulating waves of stainless steel so the reflecting light would change its appearance throughout the day.

2. Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, 1071 Fifth Avenue

This masterpiece by Frank Lloyd Wright contrasts the hard lines and strict grid that characterizes the rest of Manhattan.

Its design is a wonderful compliment to the artwork held within.

3. Hearst Tower, 300 West 57th Street

This publication empire building is itself glossy and current, much like the magazines it produces.

The steel triangles are comprised primarily of recycled materials and each floor is equipped with an eco-friendly heating and cooling system, making it not only an innovative work of architecture but also environmentally conscious.

4. New Art Museum, 235 Bowery

Designed by SANAA, the New Art Museum is a reflection of both the boxy buildings surrounding it as well as the modern art within.

The museum also offers a killer view of Lower Manhattan.

5. The IAC Building, 555 West 18th Street

Frank Gehry makes the list again with the IAC Headquarters, completed in 2007.

It is his first commercial office building and a beautiful work of architecture in the Chelsea neighborhood.

6. 40 Bond, 40 Bond Street

This luxury residential building was developed and designed by Ian Schrager and Herzog de Meuron.

Named by Curbed as one of the Best New Buildings of the Decade in 2009, its elaborate graffiti gates and oceanic green glass make it a definite head turner.

7. Porter House, 66 Ninth Avenue

This incongruous addition to an old six-story warehouse by SHoP adds even more character to the already interesting Meatpacking District.

The building now holds luxury condos.

8. The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, 41 Cooper Square

The newest addition to the Cooper Union campus, with its unpredictably curved panels sitting on the edge of the East Village, is a true work of innovative architecture by Thom Mayne of Morphosis.

9. Apple Store Fifth Avenue, 767 Fifth Avenue

Many of Apple’s flagship stores have received numerous architectural awards, and the one situated in the middle of Midtown Manhattan is no exception.

This glass cube, housing a subterranean store, was designed by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson.

10. The Standard, 848 Washington Street
