The 14th annual TriBeCa Film Festival is just around the corner (April 15-26), with a stellar line-up of movies and events that will set the tone for the next year’s award-winning films. Platinum Properties, the luxury real estate expert of the downtown Manhattan area, is here with a guide to the must-see and must-do festival activities for the film lover in you.

Live From New York!

What better way to kick off this year’s TriBeCa Film Festival than with an ode to the beloved New York institution where many of today’s best comedians got their first taste of stardom? Bao Nguyen’s documentary celebrating 40 years of the popular late-night show Saturday Night Live has been selected to screen on opening night, Wednesday, April 15. The screening will be followed by a performance from Ludacris. A panel with the film’s director and producers will take place at the SoHo Apple store the following afternoon.

Monty Python Celebration

40 seems to be the lucky number this year, as film lovers enjoy a weekend-long 40-year anniversary celebration of the classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail from April 24-26, with legends John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin. The weekend will include a screening of the hit movie as well as screenings of Life of Brian and The Meaning of Life and the unveiling of Monty Python: The Meaning of Live, a documentary exploring the five members’ preparations for their ten sold-out comedy shows at the O2 Arena in London.

Goodfellas

This year’s TriBeCa film festival will go out with a bang with a remastered screening of the famous classic 1990 crime film Goodfellas, starring TriBeCa co-founder and renowned actor Robert De Niro. Director Martin Scorsese and much of the cast will appear afterwards in a conversation moderated by John Stewart.

The Adderall Diaries

One of the most anticipated movies premiering at the festival is The Adderall Diaries, based on the true-crime memoir by Stephen Elliott and starring James Franco. Franco plays the masochistic writer as he obsesses over a San Francisco murder trial while struggling with drugs, relationships, and writer’s block. The star-studded cast also includes Ed Harris, Amber Heard, and Christian Slater. The film will be screened on Thursday, April 16, at BMCC TriBeCa Performing Arts Center.

TriBeCa Drive-In

With the TriBeCa film festival starting so soon, tickets are difficult to get and many events are already sold out. There’s still plenty to do, though—for free! Attend one of the many screenings at the annual Drive-In on the Waterfront Plaza at Brookfield Place, the beautiful and modern luxury mall in FiDi. This year’s line-up will include favorites such as Clue and Lady and the Tramp.

TriBeCa Talks

What makes the TriBeCa Film Festival so special is how it gathers together the world’s best directors, producers, and actors to discuss the evolution of movies and their love for the filmmaking process. This year’s line-up of TriBeCa talks boasts big names like Christopher Nolan, George Lucas, Cary Fukunaga, and Brad Bird. There will also be a special all-day summit entitled “Imagination” on April 22 celebrating the wonder and inspiration of new technologies, featuring speakers including chairman and CEO of AOL Tim Armstrong and NASA Project Scientist Ashwin Vasavada.

The Neighborhood

In between panels and film screenings, take the time to check out the artsy and hip neighborhood of TriBeCa. Have dinner at Robert De Niro’s iconic restaurant Nobu before it makes its move to FiDi and enjoy the lovely New York spring weather in the quaint little Duane Park.
