Summer is just around the corner. Have you started planning your vacation yet? Whether you have a week, a weekend or even just a day, there are tons of great options out there for fun and relaxation. Here are Platinum’s top five picks.

Best international destination

Designated as Europe’s Capital of Culture for 2018, Valletta, the capital city of Malta, is this summer’s hottest destination. Located between Italy and Tunisia, Malta offers an interesting mix of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cultures. The city is packed with historic buildings and was named a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Take in the dazzling interior of St. John’s Co-Cathedral, photograph the city’s picturesque shoreline, and explore its underground tunnels built during World War II.

Best island vacation

Iceland may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of an island vacation, but it should be. With airlines offering remarkably cheap flights to and from this windswept country, now is the time to experience it for yourself. After enjoying the nightlife of Reykjavik, rent a car and head out on an adventure. Travel around the Ring Road to see awesome displays of natural beauty, and make sure to dip your toes in at least one of the country’s famous hot pools.

Best place to take the kids

For a Caribbean adventure that the whole family will love, head to Dutch island of Curacao. It offers a DayGlo blend of Dutch and Caribbean architecture, dozens of beautiful beaches and plenty of family-friendly fun. Tour ancient caves on the north side of the island, check out the marine life at the Curacao Seaquarium, and feed some enormous birds at the Curacao Ostrich Farm.

Best weekend getaway

If you want to feel like you’re going to a faraway land but only have a weekend to spare, head to Montreal. The flight time from New York City to this cultured Canadian city is just under an hour and a half, but you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to Europe. Enjoy the historical French ambiance of downtown Old Montreal and have an exquisite meal at any one of the city’s trendiest restaurants. A great way to see the city is through the public bike sharing system, which has stations all over town.

Best day trip

If you just need to get out of the city for the day, hop on Metro-North from Grand Central Station and head up to Beacon, New York, just 80 minutes away. This former mill town has an adorable main street with shops, boutiques, and restaurants. But the main attraction is an art gallery housed in a former Nabisco factory. Dia:Beacon is a 300,000 square foot space devoted to massive installations of visual art from the 60s and 70s. When you’re done, take a tour of Bannerman Castle, a crumbling Scottish castle on the banks of the Hudson River.
