Summertime and music festivals go together like peanut butter and jelly, right? There’s really no better way to get those summer vibes in full swing like listening to your favorite performers under a sky full of stars on a warm night. Here’s what’s happening in and around the city this summer – get a jump on tickets before they sell out!

SummerStage

(May through Sept) Enjoy the biggest free outdoor concert event in the city! SummerStage brings free live music performances to parks around the city all summer long. A wide variety of concerts are on the schedule, including Jason Mraz and Mac DeMarco.

Governor’s Ball

(June 1-3) The Governor’s Ball on Randall’s Island is definitely one of the hottest tickets in town. The three-day music and food festival features more than 60 artists including Jack White, Travis Scott, and Eminem. There are also fun activities like life-sized board games and silent discos as well as street artists from all over the city.

Summer Jam

(June 10) Touted as the biggest hip hop concert in the world, Summer Jam 2018 is also the 25th anniversary of this popular event. Happening at MetLife Stadium, it features some of the biggest names in hip hop. Previous artists include Chris Brown, Chance the Rapper, and Nicki Minaj. Check the website for the 2018 line-up.

Firefly

(June 14-17) If you want to get out of the city for a mini-vacay, head to Delaware for the Firefly Music Festival. This concert event / camping experience is four days of fun with an amazing line-up including Foster the People, The Killers, and Kendrick Lamar. There is something for everyone here!

River To River Festival

(June 15-24) If you’d rather stay close to home this summer, you’ll love the River To River Festival, happening over 10 days at 40 sites in Lower Manhattan. The completely free arts festival includes a variety of performances that celebrate diversity and that blur the lines between visual and performing arts.

Camp Bisco

(July 12-14) Another road trip worth the trek, Camp Bisco in Scranton, Pennsylvania, is a three-day outdoor music festival hosted by the band The Disco Biscuits. The 2018 line-up includes dozens of artists such as DJ Jazzy Jeff, Bassnectar, STS9, Lettuce and many more.

Panorama Music Festival

(July 27-29) The Panorama Music Festival on Randall’s Island is brought to you by the same group that organizes Coachella — so you know it’s going to be good. The 2018 line-up includes The Weeknd, Janet Jackson, and The Killers.

AFROPUNK FEST Brooklyn

(Aug 25-26) Afropunk Fest in Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park is a weekend event that features music, food trucks, art and more. This year, enjoy live performances from Jaden Smith, Tyler the Creator, Erykah Badu and many more.

Electric Zoo

(Aug 31 – Sept 2) Rounding out the summer is Electric Zoo, also happening on Randall’s Island. It’s one of the city’s largest music festivals and features big names in electronic music. 2018 marks its 10th year.
