Meet our team: Sarah Weismer

Join us for a casual conversation with an amazing individual who helps make Platinum Properties such a special place for our agents, staff and clients.

Platinum: Sarah how are you doing today?

Sarah: I am doing really well. Thank you.

Platinum: We are here to get a little bit of insight into you and your career and your life as a realtor at Platinum Properties. How did you first become interested in real estate as a career?

Sarah: It was this experience I had trying to find an apartment. My boyfriend and I were looking for an apartment in Astoria, Queens. It was a nightmare to deal with this guy, who we had to work with because he had the listing. It was so bad, in fact, that while we were sitting down with the landlord to sign the lease, he turns to the landlord and tells her that we have a cat. We didn’t know it at the time, but the landlord didn’t want any pets in the apartment. So as a result, my landlord thinks we swindled her. It’s a horrible way to start such an important relationship. After we learned this, I thought “That guy gets paid for this? I could do so much better!” And that was the kickoff for this idea. I love interacting with people and doing so while working to facilitate their new home. Making someone’s dream of moving to New York come true is what I want to do. I did it for myself and want to do that for others, but I want to give them a much better start than we had.

Platinum: You said you moved to New York City a little over a year ago. Where did you originally come from?

Sarah: I am originally from Northeast Philadelphia but I spent almost eight years in Southern California before following my dream of moving to New York.

Platinum: What are the things that you love most about New York lifestyles that you didn’t get to experience on the West Coast?

Sarah: I never have to drive! Ever. Not being a slave to a driving commute is amazing. Now I get to work by train. During the trip, I can respond to leads, reply to emails, read and stay updated on latest real estate news. I’m highly productive in my commutes and I love that I don’t lose so much of my day. Another one of my favorite things about living in New York City is that I can get anything I want to eat in the world delivered to me at any point during the day. It’s amazing. I can actually get a vegan Philly cheese steak delivered to me at 4am if I want to. It’s amazing!

Platinum: How long have you been in real estate?

Sarah: Technically, I’ve been in real estate for four months. But I’ve been renting forever, it seems!

Platinum: What were your first few months of real estate like, and how does that differ from your expectations?

Sarah: There are so many more components to being a realtor than you think. I didn’t realize how much time I would be spending on the computer, updating my profile, generating leads on different renting websites, talking to clients and potential clients on social media. It’s more than just showing apartments every day.

Platinum: Let’s talk about your day. What does an average day look like?

Sarah: I wake up at 7:15. I eat, get ready for the day and the first thing I do is check RentHop to make sure that my featured apartments are looking good. I walk to the train station and take the time on the train to reply to any emails. When I get to the office, I respond to leads and post ads, do any sort of training that I’ve got set up; I’m doing Hootsuite training right now for social media. For lunch, I usually get out and walk around FiDi, go to one of the many amazing vegan restaurants in the neighborhood. I spend the rest of my day doing follow ups, searches, scheduling, and organizing my inboxes between showings and open houses for my exclusive 3 and 4 bedroom listings at WeLive Wall Street.

Platinum: Do you have any favorite landmarks or favorite areas in Manhattan?

Sarah: I love going to Terri, a plant based restaurant. I pick up my lunch and then walk to the end of Wall Street, to the pier. They have outdoor seating right on the pier facing the Brooklyn Bridge. I like to sit there and watch the ferries go by and feel the wind breeze through my hair. There’s just something about being close to the water. It makes me feel like I’m in touch with the earth and with nature, and it keeps me going.

Platinum: So what drives you? Do you have a philosophy that you live by?

Sarah: I want to feel like I’m doing something good in this world. I want to feel like I’m aimed at living to my fullest potential. That drives me to get out of bed in the morning, get on the phone, make those important phone calls. It’s what drives me to really connect with people. I want to meet the next awesome human being who’s moving to New York, and I want to create a meaningful relationship with them.
